Spyderco Para Military 2 is a mid-sized folding knife that serves as a more compact version of Spyderco’s flagship Military model. It combines modern solutions and original design with the highest quality materials, making it a versatile and reliable tool—whether you use it for camping or as part of your everyday carry (EDC).

The Clip Point blade is made from high-carbon CPM Cru-Wear tool steel, which is air-hardened. After proper heat treatment, it can reach hardness levels of 60–65 HRC. This steel is an enhanced version of traditional Cru-Wear and D2, improved via the CPM (Crucible Particle Metallurgy) process. It surpasses them in wear resistance (better edge retention), toughness (significantly greater impact resistance), and achievable hardness.

Like D2 steel, CPM Cru-Wear contains carbides that provide high wear resistance. However, the key difference is the higher amount of vanadium carbides, which are much harder and more effective at providing wear resistance compared to the chromium carbides found in D2. Another advantage is the addition of tungsten and molybdenum, which allows for secondary hardening—making it possible for the steel to reach higher hardness levels of up to 65 HRC, something D2 cannot achieve.

CPM Cru-Wear is also tempered at higher temperatures (from 900°F to 1050°F), giving it greater flexibility in choosing various surface treatments. The use of CPM technology results in a more uniform structure, which increases resistance to chipping and breakage compared to conventionally produced tool steels. All these features make CPM Cru-Wear an excellent choice for knives that require high strength, wear resistance, and long-lasting sharpness—ideally suited for the Spyderco Para Military 2 Comp Lock.

Thanks to its geometry, the blade doesn’t bind during cutting and, with its effective cutting aggression, it glides smoothly through material. The well-chosen blade length makes it an excellent EDC knife for everyday use. One-handed opening of the blade is facilitated by Spyderco’s patented Spyderhole, which has a diameter of about 14 mm, chosen to ensure comfortable access and smooth, reliable opening. This mechanism is intuitive and easy for both right- and left-handed users. When the blade is open, it’s secured by Spyderco’s unique Compression Lock. Its principle of operation is similar to the popular Liner Lock, but in this case, the steel locking leaf is located on the top side of the handle. This design ensures a high level of safety while maintaining intuitive operation.

The large, comfortable handle of the Spyderco Para Military 2 is crafted with great attention to detail, enhancing both its aesthetics and reliability. The construction is based on sturdy steel liners to which Canvas Micarta scales are attached. This material not only has an attractive appearance but also guarantees a secure grip—even when your hand is wet or gloved. The handle’s shape is considered one of the most comfortable among EDC knives on the market.

A convenient pocket clip is fastened with three Torx screws, allowing it to be easily reversed to the other side of the handle. The rear of the handle also has a large lanyard hole that doubles as a standoff, adding stiffness to the design.
