Military and Tactical Fleece - Thermal Comfort in Any Conditions

Fleece jackets are one of the most important layers of our clothing, responsible for maintaining thermal comfort. This fabric, popularly called fleece, was invented in the late seventies of the last century, completely revolutionizing the tourism market. The name itself comes from the material produced by Malden Mills - Polartec. In the following years, clothes made of this material appeared in the offer of almost all outdoor industry manufacturers. Since then, various types of fleece have not disappeared from the industry, and new technological solutions allow for even better products of this type. Thanks to its practicality, fleece clothing has also been introduced into the equipment of most armies, and companies producing tactical equipment are eager to include it in their offer.

What is military fleece made of and why is it so popular?

Fleece is a fabric made entirely of synthetic fibers. Polyethylene terephthalate, or popular PET, is mainly used for its production. This is exactly the same material from which, among others, plastic bottles are made. For this reason, fleece manufacturers largely use recycling. Once, it was mainly done by companies producing cheaper clothing. Today, however, in the era of growing environmental awareness, more and more brands are reaching for recycled materials. Especially since such obtained material is not worse, and to the same extent it is suitable for creating high-class clothes. However, this did not determine the popularity of fleece. The main features, thanks to which it is appreciated by tourists and outdoor enthusiasts around the world, are high thermics, hydrophobicity and breathability. It is for this reason that fleeces replaced heavy woolen sweaters and knitted sweatshirts. For this reason, fleece sweatshirts are the main insulating layer of military clothing systems, such as the American ECWCS. In the Polish Army, fleece is also a basic insulating element. The use of fleece clothing in combination with thermal underwear, softshell or a membrane jacket (hardshell) gives excellent results in the form of ensuring thermal comfort even in the most unfavorable conditions, and great breathability.
