The first versions of this type of American jackets were designed as part of the Objective Force Warrior program in 2002 and the Future Force Warrior in 2004. Combat shirts were widely adopted in the American army in 2007 and 2008. Initially, 160,000 new, fire-resistant uniform sets were distributed to soldiers operating in convoys on foreign missions.
