The Ka-Bar TDI/Hinderer Hell Fire knife (2486) is a collaboration between John Benner (founder of the Tactical Defense Institute) and the famous knifemaker Rick Hinderer, owner of Hinderer Knives. This project resulted in an extremely handy tool for self-defense in CQB (Close Quarter Battle) situations, dedicated to uniformed officers to ensure their safety in the most unexpected circumstances.
The TDI/Hinderer Hell Fire knife (2486) from Ka-Bar, signed by the Tactical Defense Institute in Ohio, is a medium-sized so-called last-chance knife that allows you to take active defense in a situation of disarmament or lack of space to draw and use a firearm. The Full Tang knife is made of one piece of Cro-Van 1095 carbon steel with an admixture of chrome and vanadium, 4.8 millimeters thick. The knife blade has a Recurve Tanto shape with a plain cutting edge, has two cuts: hollow on the curve and flat on the point with a bevel typical of the Tanto geometry. On the back of the blade, just above the handle, there is a large, notched ramp for the thumb, allowing for more precise cutting and stiffening the grip. In order to eliminate light reflections and protect the steel against external factors, the blade is covered with a black, matte, ceramic protective coating.
The handle of the Hell Fire knife has a curved handle geometry typical of TDI knives (the drawn knife is gripped like a gun), making it easier to draw and operate the tool in a tight work environment. The handle linings are made of BASF polyamide, available under the Ultramid® trade name, and are ergonomic, thanks to which the knife fits perfectly in the hand, and the slightly textured surface of the handle linings guarantees a firm grip even with a wet hand. The handle has a hole for a wrist safety lanyard.
The knife comes with a stiff and extremely durable sheath made of polymer, equipped with a special blade lock that protects it from falling out or being removed by unauthorized persons. The lock is intuitive, just push the lever with your thumb to the edge of the cover. The cover is equipped with a special steel belt clip (1480CLIP), allowing the tool to be installed both on the outside and inside of the belt.
