Spyderco Manix 2 XL DLC Blade (C95GPBBK2) is intended for users seeking a tactical knife that prioritizes low visibility in conditions requiring discretion (also known as “light discipline”). This knife stands out thanks to its DLC (Diamond-Like Carbon) coating on the blade, as well as darkened scales, clip, and hardware. This type of finish ensures a low-profile, non-reflective appearance, which is highly effective in situations where a glint from the blade could reveal the user’s position.

The blade is made from high-quality CPM S30V stainless steel and measures 3.86 inches (approximately 98 mm) in length. Compared to the original Manix model, it is 25% thinner, which helps reduce cutting resistance and also lowers the knife’s overall weight. It features a full-flat grind, maximizing cutting performance and allowing smooth passage through materials. Additional jimping on the thumb ramp and forefinger choil improves blade control, enabling a more secure grip—even while wearing gloves. The knife’s deployment is made easier by the 14 mm Spyder Hole, facilitating one-handed operation of the blade.

The Manix 2 XL handle is built on 420J2 steel liners, which are topped with textured black G-10 scales. This setup guarantees excellent structural strength while also ensuring a comfortable and secure grip. Jimping on the edges of the liners further enhances knife control, which is crucial for more precise tasks or operation in challenging conditions. Its open-backed construction simplifies cleaning and maintenance. A convenient reversible hourglass clip (for tip-up carry, either left- or right-handed) and a reinforced lanyard hole allow you to customize how the knife is carried according to personal preference.

The blade is locked in place by Spyderco’s patented Ball Bearing Lock™ mechanism. This mechanism comprises a steel ball bearing housed in a specially designed textured polymer cage. When the blade is opened, a steel plunger pushes the bearing between a ramp on the blade and a steel “anvil” in the knife’s back spacer, forming an exceptionally strong and secure lockup. To close the blade, simply pull the caged bearing back, releasing the lock—without having to place your fingers in the path of the edge. This mechanism provides outstanding strength, smooth operation, and complete ambidexterity, making it equally user-friendly for both right- and left-handed individuals.
