Eberlestock Freefall 2000 Pack is an exceptionally versatile 32-liter backpack that excels in various situations—ranging from hiking trips and short excursions, through hunting and tactical operations, all the way to urban EDC (Everyday Carry). It was created with versatility in mind: unlike backpacks specialized for a specific task (e.g., trifold carry, radio carry, or meat hauling), the Freefall 2000 is designed to perform well across multiple scenarios. Notably, even though it appears more “streamlined” compared to classic military packs (lacking external MOLLE), it has gained popularity among special forces for direct action and reconnaissance missions.
Its carrying system is based on the Intex aluminum frame, designed with a gap between the pack and the user’s back for better ventilation, helping to prevent excessive sweating during extended use. The harness is derived from other Eberlestock backpack designs but features several key improvements. Thanks to the so-called “turn construction,” the straps are more generously padded and do not dig into the shoulders under heavier loads. Meanwhile, the hip belt—equipped with a new “pull-forward” system—can be tightened from two points simultaneously, providing better weight distribution and improved carrying ergonomics. A rubberized material has been added in the lumbar area to keep the pack stable against the user’s back and prevent shifting.
When it comes to organizing gear, Freefall 2000 offers precisely what’s needed for a longer trip without being overloaded with excessive compartments and organizers. The backpack has a top pocket for small items and a spacious main compartment with a clam-shell zipper—after releasing the compression straps, it allows full access to your packed gear. Inside, there are several pockets, including a zippered mesh pocket, elastic side dividers, and a slot for a hydration bladder with side exits for the drinking tube. Externally, you’ll find stretch side pockets that can hold water bottles, a tripod, or even a rifle. The compression straps are designed in such a way that they don’t put stress on the main zipper; the lower strap features a unique V-shaped system, allowing you to compress the load while keeping the bottle pockets accessible.
The pack is made of durable 500D nylon, ensuring high resistance to abrasions and damage in the field. The Freefall 2000 can handle substantial loads, thanks to a rigid frame and a stable carrying system. If necessary, the hip belt can be completely removed to give the pack a more “urban” silhouette. This feature, combined with a variety of color options (ranging from military-style to more subdued, urban tones), also makes the Freefall 2000 an excellent choice for a larger EDC. If you’re looking for a versatile backpack that’s comfortable, functional, and durable, the Eberlestock Freefall 2000 Pack 32L is definitely worth considering.
