Sparc Solar is a new, innovative model of collimator offered by the American brand Vortex. The company has been one of the leaders in the optics market for years, producing such product categories as rangefinders, binoculars and observation telescopes. Vortex Sparc Solar is made of high-quality duralumin. This material is characterized by full corrosion resistance and high durability. The metal surface is anodized to increase its hardness and, consequently, the durability of the entire structure. The collimator tube is filled with nitrogen and sealed very carefully. This eliminates the phenomenon of internal fogging of the optics. The body of the Sparc Solar model has been shortened and the entire product has been noticeably slimmed down, making it weigh only 167g.
The collimator is operated using two flat buttons responsible for turning it on and off, as well as changing the brightness level. Aiming is served by a bright, red dot of 2 MOA. The Sparc Solar model uses lenses with multi-layer anti-reflective coatings, which guarantee a bright, contrasting image and high light transmission. The viewfinder has no parallax error. Moreover, regardless of how far the shooter's eye is from the sight, both the sight and the target are clearly visible. Vortex Sparc Solar is mounted on a classic picatinny rail.
What distinguishes the new model from the Vortex offer are two forms of power supply: the main one, using a monocrystalline solar cell, and the second one - a disposable CR2032 battery. The Auto D-Tec technology automatically switches to batteries when necessary (e.g. in case of insufficient sunlight). The combination of both systems guarantees incredible battery life, reaching up to one hundred and fifty thousand (!) hours. Additionally, the collimator is equipped with various solutions that reduce energy consumption - e.g. automatic putting it into sleep mode after a long (14-hour) inactivity.
