The filter is in the form of a medium-length plastic tube. On the one side of the "straws" there is a convenient mouthpiece, and on the other, a strainer that prevents suction of the largest, physical impurities, such as sand, gravel or leaves. Both ends are additionally covered so that they do not get dirty while being moved. Inside LifeStraw Personal there is a special, very fine membrane. It is she who ensures the purity of the water, retaining all pathogens and various biological contaminants.
LifeStraw Personal Filter, apart from its compact dimensions, owes its popularity to its great efficiency. The special HollowFiber filter actually works on a very simple principle. The pores through which water penetrates are microscopic - only 0.2 µm. Thanks to this, water molecules are able to pass to the other side without any problems. The pores, however, are so small that they do not let biological threats such as bacteria, parasites or protozoa pass through. The LifeStraw Personal filter is able to stop as much as 99.999999% of bacteria (including E. coli or Salmonella) and 99.999% of protozoa (including Giardia or Cryptosporidium), as well as 99.999% of microplastics, sand etc. The only thing we have to be careful about are viruses which, due to their even smaller size, cannot be removed with the filter. When choosing a region where they pose a significant threat (e.g. tropical forests), it is necessary to equip yourself with filtering systems that can also cope with this type of pollution. LifeStraw Personal is very efficient. The HollowFiber filter allows you to filter up to approx. 4000 liters of water, which allows for a long time of use, especially with occasional use (e.g. during trips). For longer product life, it is worth rinsing (or "blowing") it with clean water after use to get rid of larger impurities. When using the filter in winter, it is important to keep it close to your body so that the water does not freeze in the membrane, increasing the micropores.
The way of using LifeStraw Personal, as well as its principle of operation, is very simple. The "straw of life" acts literally like a straw - it is enough to dip the outer end in the tank with untreated water, while sucking water through the mouthpiece. In this way, it is possible to drink directly from such reservoirs as puddles, rivers or lakes. Of course, for greater convenience, we can also pour pre-treated water into a cup, for example, and drink the water from it with LifeStraw Personal. Thanks to its small dimensions, the filter will easily fit into field equipment, and by providing easy access to drinking water, it also allows you to significantly reduce the amount of equipment taken. When going on a route, e.g. in a region rich in watercourses or lakes, we do not have to stock up on a large supply of water, and we can easily draw from them with LifeStraw.
