The Gerber Gator Kukri machete is another model from the American manufacturer's offer, inspired by traditional designs of tools from around the world. Kukri are large knives that have been used for hundreds of years by the Gurkha ethnic group living in Nepal. It is a very universal model, which is a real "multitool" of local communities. Kukri is used not only for simple camp work or food preparation, but also as a defense tool. They gained worldwide fame thanks to the Gurkhas, who have been serving in the most elite units of the British army for over 150 years.
The high-carbon 1055 steel was used to produce the Gerber machete. This material is easy to work with, and at the same time extremely resistant to cracks or chipping. This makes spring steel perfectly suitable for the production of this type of tool. The cutting edge maintains its working sharpness for a long time, and if necessary, we can re-sharpen it relatively easily, even in off-road conditions. The only disadvantage of the 1050 is its rustiness - but the manufacturer also thought about it, coating the blade with a special, anti-corrosion powder coating. For the handle, the American manufacturer used thermoplastic rubber in the innovative GatorGrip® technology. The alligator-like texture gives the grip an exceptionally high grip. This allows you to work with the tool even in the most demanding conditions, e.g. with wet hands.
The shape of the model refers directly to the large blades used by the Gurkha. However, the Gerber Kukri has been “slimmed down”, which makes it a much more convenient tool to carry in the field. Nevertheless, the machete has not lost much of its functionality - it is still perfect for grubbing, chopping or chopping. The Gerber Gator Kukri is therefore a great choice as a tool for all kinds of camp work.
The machete has a large, bulky handle typical of the Gator series. Its characteristic shape provides a very good grip and firm support, which we will appreciate, for example, when working with wet or tired hands. At the end of the handle there is a hole with a cord attached, thanks to which we can additionally protect the tool against slipping out of the hand. In the set with the machete, we also get a durable scabbard made of black nylon, allowing you to safely carry the tool or attach it to the backpack.
The Gerber Gator Kukri is a great field tool for people who need a proven, large blade. The machete is not afraid of harder work, coping with all camp and field tasks. The combination of a functional, traditional form with modern materials is a perfect proposition for bushcraft and outdoor enthusiasts.
